Turn it off and on again.
The most clichéd phrase in IT It works though and people do not realise how powerful this initial step is to troubleshooting. An analogue I use is computers are like us they need sleep, sleeping resets us and hopefully refreshes us, and computers are no different, turning a computer off can help flush out temporary files and errors that have built up over the systems uptime. It will also help completely shut down that pesky application that you think you closed, but that might have services running that task manager didn't close even though you 'killed' the main .exe. This wonderful tip works for all manner of electronics, and the general rule of thumb is wait 30s before turning it on again, the reason the 30s rule came about, is electricity is stored in capacitors and it can take some time for those capacitors to discharge, it depends on the system of course, and generally even a restart can help solve most problems.
